For 2009, the Nevada Day parade actually falls on the right day, October 31, the date in 1864 when Nevada was admitted to the Union as our 36th state. The official holiday for the government will be on Friday, October 30, meaning state and local offices will be closed, including the DMV, courts, and libraries.

The Nevada Day Celebration is appropriately centered in Carson City, Nevada's first and only capital city. The theme for 2009 is A Salute to President Lincoln. Various Nevada Day events will be spread over three days, from Friday, October 30, through Sunday, November 1. The biggest event is Saturday's Nevada Day Parade, starting at 10 a.m. and running down Carson Street, from William Street on the north to Stewart Street on the south. The parade is well attended, so I'd get there early to stake out a good viewing spot.
