Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of October. This Saturday, October 24, will be a day for volunteer projects that help others, whether it be something simple like helping an elderly neighbor with a project or getting together to plant trees and improve area parks. There is certainly no shortage of good deeds that need doing and this is a good day to do something to help improve our community.

Here are some Reno projects I've found, though there are probably more...

  • Adopt-A-Park by Planting Trees with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful - Trees donated by AT&T Yellow Pages will be planted at several area parks by volunteer individuals and groups. Planting hours will be from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information contact Maia Dickerson at (775) 851 5185.
    - Rancho San Rafael Regional Park - 1595 N. Sierra St, Reno
    - Washoe Golf Course, - 2601 Foley Way, Reno
    - HIdden Valley Regional Park - Parkway Drive
    - Melody Park - 2370 Scottsdale Drive, Reno
    - Dick Taylor Park - 1140 Beech St., Reno
  • Make a Difference Day Volunteer Fair - Come to Depoali Middle School, 9300 Wilbur May Parkway in south Reno to learn about ways to volunteer in our community. The Fair is from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature non-profit agencies sharing information about volunteer opportunities. If you are with a non-profit agency and would like to reserve a table, contact Vicki Warner Huggins (775) 327 3854 or Ann-Marie Fenner (775) 327 3855.

Make A Difference Day is sponsored by USA Weekend magazine and the newspapers that carry it, like the Reno Gazette-Journal. You can register your project to become eligible for charitable donations from various organizations such as AARP and Disney Family Fun magazine.
