Tired of reckless speeders ripping up and down your residential street? So are most of the rest of us, which is why I applaud the traffic engineering technique known as traffic calming. This measure has been implemented to good effect throughout town by Reno's Traffic Engineering division. You'll notice the technique in action in the form of roundabouts, speed tables, intersection islands, and various types of street markings designed to slow people down and/or alter traffic patterns.

If you would like traffic calming added to your neighborhood streets, there is an application procedure you can initiate. Whether or not it actually happens depends on a number of factors - your neighbors signing a petition requesting traffic calming, getting your project on the priority list, and available funding.
