If you do and you would like it to go away, the City of Reno wants to hear from you. The tree will placed downtown at City Plaza (location of Rink on the River), across from Reno City Hall, to be decorated and become Reno's Holiday Tree for 2009. Before political correctness changed things, we called such installations Christmas trees.

The donated tree needs to be at least 40 feet tall, reasonably symmetrical, and easily accessible. It will be removed free of charge by Reno's Urban Forestry Division on November 16, weather permitting. The preferred species is Giant Sequoia, but I'm thinking another type that meets the requirements would receive serious consideration. If the tree was going to be axed anyway, donating it will save the owner hundreds in removal costs. If you have such an evergreen tree and want it to be Reno's Holiday Tree, call Steve at (775) 334-2270.

The donor will be publicly acknowledged at this year's Holiday Tree lighting ceremony on Tuesday, November 24 at around 5:20 p.m. Following the ceremony, Rink on the River opens for the 2009-2010 season.
