You don't have to go anywhere to experience the spectacle of the changing season. People have planted a rainbow variety of deciduous trees and shrubs throughout the Truckee Meadows. To see color on trees and shrubs from around the world, visit the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
Fall around Lake Tahoe is unsurpassed. The combination of golden aspens and Lake Tahoe Basin scenery just can't be beat. A short drive to the south of the lake is Hope Valley, a world famous spot for capturing photos of the autumn show. For those with more time and ambition, a drive south along the eastern Sierra will take you to numerous fall color hotspots all the way down to Bishop.

Big Storm Coming - If we were talking snow, everyone would be thrilled, but we're not. This one is going to be rain, even up at Lake Tahoe. You want snow, it will be above 7500 feet. According to the National Weather Service, it's coming in Monday night and Tuesday and is forecast to continue through Wednesday. Heavy rain in the Sierra is predicted, with up to an inch falling down here in the Truckee Meadows. I'd say this is good news for our parched region. Sorry skiers, lows around Lake Tahoe will be in the balmy 40s - you're going to have to wait a little longer.
