If you liked the high winds last Tuesday, you're going to love what's coming this weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a dramatic change from today's balmy weather will start to arrive tonight and keep going downhill through Saturday and Sunday. Winds on Saturday are expected to pick up to around 25 to 30 mph and gust as high as 45 mph. Come Saturday night, rain and snow will be possible, with snow levels dropping to the Reno area. By Sunday, the chance of rain and/or snow increases and will continue into Monday. Daytime highs will be about 20 degrees cooler than today. By the middle of next week, we'll be back to balmy fall weather. At least we don't live in one of those places where it's just boringly nice all the time.
It will be much the same up at Lake Tahoe, with the added concern of extreme fire danger. Vegetation is still tender dry - we've had no significant rain in months - and the coming high winds have prompted a red flag warning to be issued for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you plan on venturing out to any Reno / Tahoe events this weekend, you might want to check the weather forecast and highway conditions before hitting the road.
