This Saturday, September 26, is Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day, on which numerous museums across the country will be offering free admission. The only catch is that you need to go online and obtain your Museum Day Admission Card from the Smithsonian Magazine website. Here are the participating museums in our area. I personally confirmed the first two, but did not receive a call back from the Fourth Ward School.

Saturday is National Public Lands Day and five federal agencies that administer public lands are having a fee-free day. This includes entrance and day use fees at federal recreation and visitor sites, but not other fees such as camping and rentals. The agencies involved are the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service, and Army Corps of Engineers.

Street Vibrations will be rumbling downtown Reno through the weekend. I went and checked it out Thursday afternoon and the place was hopping. There are three stages with live music, hundreds of vendors hawking their wares, much food and drink, and plenty of shiny chrome and paint on literally thousands of big bikes. The people watching is pretty good, too. If you are really into the custom motorcycle thing, there are some beautiful machines on display inside the Silver Legacy. Gawking and talking is free, but hang on to your wallet when in the vicinity of any gaming establishments.

There are several more events this weekend you might want to consider - Galena Fest 2009, the Genoa Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire, etc. See more of what's going on with my September Events listings.
