Ever wonder what's it's like to be homeless, never sure where you're going to sleep on any given night? Reno's Cardboard Box City 2009 is your chance to find out and help a local good cause at the same time. The event will be overnight on Friday, September 25 at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. It is sponsored by Family Promise of Reno / Sparks, a non-profit group that promotes awareness of homelessness and helps homeless families work toward solving their situation. According to Family Promise, around 5,000 people in Washoe County are homeless and about a third of these are families with children.

Participants can become residents of Cardboard Box City by making a minimum pledge of $75. Groups are encouraged to participate. Activities are appropriate for all ages and the outdoor sleeping area at Wingfield Park will be secured and closed to the public. Registration begins at 5 p.m. on the 25th and the event ends Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Get more information about pledging and participation details from the Cardboard Box City FAQs or by calling (775) 284-5566.
