The community of South Lake Tahoe is holding a fundraiser this Sunday, September 20, for kidnap victim Jaycee Lee Dugard. The concert will be at the Horizon Casino's Convention Center from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is titled "Building New Bridges" and everyone is invited to come celebrate her safe return after 18 years as a captive. Funds raised will bolster the fund Dugard and her family will need to begin the long recovery from this horrific experience.

Bands playing at the concert will include The Movers, The Garcia Brothers, Big Red Band, Turquoise and more. There will also be food, a cash bar and silent auction items from South Lake Tahoe lodging properties, restaurants and area activities. Local businesses who have donated their time and services include Horizon Casino & Resort, Lake Tahoe Gaming Alliance, Tahoe Beach & Ski, Lake Tahoe Soroptimists, and the performing artists.

Residents Kathie Garcia and Fionn Lambert are hosting the event. "I've lived here a long time, and Jaycee's disappearance 18 years ago had a significant impact on our community," said Garcia. "I wanted to raise funds to help Jaycee in her recovery process and I thought a concert would be an excellent way to bring people together. I've reached out to the leaders in our community to participate and the response has been overwhelming - it will truly be a memorable event."

Tickets are $25 for adults. Children 11 and under are free. Tickets are available online from Ticketmaster, at the door, or by calling the Horizon box office at (775) 588-6211.

The "Building New Bridges" event will benefit the Jaycee Dugard Family Fund. You can also make donations to the fund at Bank of the West, 2161 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. For more information call Kathie Garcia at (530) 542-4354.

Is this a joke? By the time she makes all of her guest appearances and writes her book she will be worth millions.

(2) June Andrews :

Regarding Mitch’s cynical comment, fair play to the fundraisers and I hope Jaycee does make her millions writing a book.

I agree with June. I think it’s great that Jaycee’s friends and neighbors are coming together to help her. We need more caring behavior like this. I really doubt that she is in any kind of shape to make appearances and write books, though I’m sure the vultures are thickly hovering in her vicinity.

Mitch, no where does it say she is making a public appearance AND, as of this date, she has not made any appearances of book deals. So what if people want to help – isn’t that what life is all about? Go to Church, open your heart and quit being so bitter.

Mitch, I hope she does make millions!!!!! She deserves it and a whole lot more!!!!! You are a cold hearted JERK!!!!!!! That poor girl has been gone for 18 years- away from her family that loves her. She was kidnapped and raped, are you a idiot?!! You have no idea what that precious those precious girls have been through. If she does decided to make appearances and speak about what has happened to her- she should get paid!!!!!!! My heart goes out to her and her family and wish nothing but the very best for her.

Mitch,

How about you get kidnapped and rapped over and over again for 18 years by a man. What right do you have even being in this world much less a man. Or is the fact that you are a man make you think you have the right to even say that. You are a puke, slime, scum of the earth. Maybe you are a rapist or something and think women or little girls are worth nothing but to rape and do with what you will… Creepy slimmy person… How do you sleep at night.

There’s so much recovery to be done. Jaycee was robbed of her life since she was 11. She was forced into a life created by a complete stranger and monster to being what he wanted. Now it’s time to heal and a new life with those who truly love her while still having this bizarre life in the past having to be part of all their lives. DAMN THAT CRAZY CRAZY WEIRD STUPID SELFISH SICK GARRIDO -GARRIDO GET ONLY WHAT YOU DESERVE THAT’LL BE ENOUGH!

May I reprint this article please? I wrote a blog post about fundraising for Jaycee here: http://winetrail.wordpress.com/2009/09/02/jaycee-lee-dugard-family-fund/

Thanks!
Penny
P.S. Jaycee used to ride the schoolbus with my nephew Tim. They shared the same bus stop. My sister Nancy and her husband Jim and Tim were Jaycee’s neighbors in Tahoe. It tore up the whole community when Jaycee was stolen. What an amazing blessing that she survived, and how awesome that she has daughters and can now rejoin her real family. I pray for this family. I am so happy that she is alive.

Mitch, you are entitled to your opinion. Dillion, what did Mitch say that makes him rule? State your opinion without swaring and you will look much more intelligent. I fully support Jaycee and I hope that she can get on with her life without be concerned about how she will pay bills, put a roof over her head and pay bills. I shed many a tear when I think about what has happened to this poor family. I want to hear her story and I hope she makes alot of money from telling it. There is not enough money to compensate her for what she has been through.

It does not really matter whatever Mitch or anyone like him/her say; what is important is the community is opening their hearts to collaborate and help Jaycee and her children. I wish that the entire nation do the same thing, rolling up their sleeves and help victims like Jaycee and her children for their speedy recovery. I believe the information to assist them is on the web site.
I hope that make millions and millions, they very much deserve it. For anyone who thinks like Mitch, I believe you are entitled to your opinion, but it is best that they keep these colds words to themselves.

(18) Sarah :

mitch, im sure the last thing on Jaycees mind is money .. how is she supposed to heal and get on with her life with people like you putting their 2 cents worth in. How is she even supposed to talk about what happened to her when it will take years to work through it herself.
engage your brain you idiot

(19) Nicole :

There is not enough money on the planet to make up
for what Jaycee and her family has been through.
However, the more money the easier it will be to pick up the pieces and rebuilt their lives to enjoy
what time they have together from now on. It’s
really nice Lake Tahoe is really stepping up to help
them.

Any negative comments made towards this woman’s life and so forth, coming from the mouths of losers with probably the same sick mentality as her captor. To rape an 11 year old child deserves the death penality and for anyone to shrug it off and make crude comments like this ahole mitch? Gee mitch do u have a sister that age? a friend who has one that is 11?? get therapy.
