RSCVA Seeking to Save Reno 911!

It was recently announced that Reno 911! has been canceled. This news has brought out a bunch of Reno 911! fans who don't want to let it go without a fight. The idea is to create a groundswell of support to try and convince Comedy Central to continue the show or convince another network to pick it up and film it here in Reno (it's actually done in southern California, with a few shots of Reno thrown in). Leading the charge is the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA). They have set up a fan website at SaveRENO911.com where you can sign a petition in support of keeping Reno 911! on the air. The RSCVA effort is also on Twitter and they have a fan page on Facebook. If you are a Reno 911! fan, just go to one (or all) of these sites and let those dastardly cancelers know you want the show to say on the air.

In case you are one of the few who doesn't know about Reno 911!, it's a show on the Comedy Central cable channel that mocks our fair city through the antics of a fictional law enforcement agency named the Reno Sheriff's Department. During its six year run, Reno 911! has portrayed us as a city full of weirdoes and depraved citizens of various types requiring the services of an equally strange police force. It's a bit raunch at times, but it's really funny for those of us who don't take ourselves too seriously. The show has also provided something our tourist economy needs lots of right now - free publicity, and all publicity is good (except for philandering politicians).

"One thing Reno has is a sense of humor," says Ellen Oppenheim, RSCVA President and CEO. "We hope the petition results in the show getting picked up by another network, and that they film the show here instead of the non-descript valleys of southern California. We've taken more than a few punches from the show, and we think it's time for the producers to visit the real, offbeat Reno to see what fun they've been missing out on."
