The Great Peanut Butter Challenge is a friendly contest between Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County, the purpose of which is to collect the protein-rich food for donation to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. "We always need protein foods just because it's a really important part of a nutritious diet, so peanut butter is something we're always looking for," said Jocelyn Lantrip, spokeswoman for the Food Bank.

To participate, residents can drop off jars of peanut butter at one of these locations through close of business on Friday...

  • Reno City Hall, 1 E. First Street.
  • Sparks City Hall, 431 Prater Way.
  • Washoe County Administration Complex, 1001 E. Ninth Street in Reno.
The final donation opportunity will be at the Friday evening Reno Aces game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. in the new downtown baseball stadium. Bins for Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County will be set up at the gates for fans to drop their peanut butter donations. Once the jars are counted, the winner will be announced sometime during the game.
