Visit Reno / Tahoe, Save Big on Room Rates

Hotel room rates around Reno and Lake Tahoe haven't been this low in a long time, and we're not talking about the little mom and pop motels scattered about the area. Big properties like the Montbleu Resort in South Lake Tahoe are renting rooms for as little as $39. In Reno, the Peppermill has rates as low as $49, the Cal-Neva is $34, it's $29 at the Sands Regency, and you can sleep at Circus Circus for $39. There are plenty of other deals out there if you just look around. Of course, all of this is an attempt to keep bodies in beds and a reflection of declining tourism due to the poor economy.

With double digit percentage drops in room occupancy rates has come a similar decline in hotel room taxes and gaming revenue - the bucks don't flow when people aren't pulling the handles on those one-armed bandits and renting hotel rooms. May room taxes in Washoe County fell 12%, cutting tax collections by almost $3 million.

Hotel room rates are always in flux and the ones I've mentioned are no exception.
