The 2009 4th of July weekend will be full of fireworks and fun all around Reno, Sparks, and Lake Tahoe. The biggest Independence Day event in the Truckee Meadows is Star Spangled Sparks. Things start the evening of July 3 at Sparks Marina Park, then continue on the 4th with a full schedule of fun activities. The party then migrates to Victorian Square for an afternoon and evening of family friendly events, capped off by a spectacular fireworks show blasted off from The Nugget's hotel towers. (Note: Reno's fireworks display has been canceled for 2009.)

Up at Lake Tahoe, Star Spangled Fourth - Lights on the Lake at South Lake Tahoe includes a massive fireworks show launched from an off shore barge. It is billed as one of the top five displays in the country. Other shows around the Lake will be at Tahoe City, Incline Village, Kings Beach, and Truckee.

Fireworks are illegal everywhere in northern Nevada and California except approved public fireworks displays, period. Under a no tolerance policy, fire departments and the police will bust anyone caught shooting off fireworks, as they should. Don't do it.

Get Thee to The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival
The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival begins July 11th with a performance of Much Ado About Nothing. Continuing through August 23, the Festival will present a second Shakespeare play, Measure for Measure, the Urban Village Music Series on Monday nights, and activities for children.
