Free Fishing Day in Nevada is Saturday, July 13. Residents and non-residents alike can wet a line anywhere in the state that it's legal to fish, without the formality of buying a fishing license. This is not a free-for-all, however. All other rules and regulations apply as usual. "Free Fishing Day provides the perfect opportunity for families to spend the day together in an activity they may have never tried before," said Chris Vasey, Nevada Department of Wildlife's (NDOW) Angler Education Coordinator. A related bonus is free admission to all Nevada State Parks having fishing waters. In the Reno / Tahoe area, these include Washoe Lake, Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe, backcountry lakes near Lake Tahoe (Marlette and Hobart), Lake Lahontan, and Ft. Churchill. For free entry, show your fishing poles.

Kids' Free Fishing Day at Sparks Marina - The Sparks Rotary Club, NDOW, and the City of Sparks Parks and Recreation Department are again holding this fun family event at Sparks Marina Park. Fishing from the south shore of the Sparks Marina Lake is from from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Rotary members and NDOW staff will be on hand to help children get the hang of luring the wily trout. The event is open to kids age 7 to 17. Participants will receive commemorative T-shirts and fishing poles as long as supplies last. There will also be games, face painting, and a free barbecue lunch for registered children starting at 9 a.m. For more information, call (775) 353-2385.
