This is an excursion steam train owned by Union Pacific. It’s kind of a rolling advertisement and steam train buffs go crazy whenever they run it around the country. In this picture, it is leaving Portola, CA, headed to Gerlach and Winnemucca, NV, and points east. This is the Feather River Route, which is north of the line you see in the Sierra along I80.
I love trains, especially the sound of the whistle and wheels rolling along the tracks at night while laying in bed at night. I grew up with train tracks nearby. Wonderful photo Stan!

Ok you’ve got me wondering, if that is a trains whose tracks we see disappearing into snowy mountainside tunnels when we go skiing.

Great shot – that steam gives it a real sense of power and movement.
Excellent shot. You really have a sense of movement and power.
Reminds me of the smoke that comes out of the stacks of the Narrow Gauge train in Durango, Colorado. Nice shot!
Happy WW to you! I hope that you will come and see my entry, too.
