If you like the social networking thing but don't want to spend your life updating Facebook or MySpace, check out Twitter. Simply put, Twitter is a micro-blogging Web service that lets users post short messages called tweets. Short means text only with a 140 character limit. Yes, this sounds goofy and like a giant waste of time, which is what I thought when I first heard about it. However, after finding references to Twitter popping up all over the Web, I decided to give it a try. If it didn't work out, I could just bail and forget it, right? Well, it has worked out for me and I'm now a regular tweeter. I'm finding Twitter to be fun and informative - I learn stuff I might not run across otherwise and enjoy reading the amazing variety of things people talk about. Since I spend many of my working hours in front of a computer, tweeting provides some social contact and a feeling of camaraderie that would otherwise be missing. It's also an outlet for the occasional rant about some current event that ruffles my feathers.
There is way more to Twitter than my brief description. As they say, you've got to see it for yourself. If you decided to tweet, follow your RenoTahoe guide at RenoTahoeStan.
