Oh my! I cannot believe I’ve never been to Tahoe. It will definitely be on my “to visit” places when we finally head home to the States. I imagine there is good hiking in the Summer? I’m not much of a skier… more of a “cup of cocoa by the fire with a good book” kind of gal. But I do enjoy a nice hike!
Anyway, I am taking my family to Tahoe this weekend. Is it true that there will be T-storms all weekend? The kids are hoping to be able to play in the snow… Is there any snow left at this time? The picture you posted gives me some hopes. Where was it taken?
Any suggestions what activities for kids? We will be around the Stateline area. Where is the best place for some snow… and are there any good parks around there?
Yes, it’s true that thunderstorms are forecast for the weekend, but I wouldn’t let that stop me. If they actually happen (there is a 20% to 30% chance) it’s almost always in the afternoon and of short duration. On the plus side, the huge clouds that might build up make for some awesome scenery in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
I think you are a little late for snow play. There might still be enough at Heavenly, up behind South Lake Tahoe, and possibly at Squaw Valley at the north end of the lake. Your best bet is to look around during the drive up and inquire locally once you arrive.
There are public beaches and parks right in South Lake Tahoe. Around on the east (Nevada) side, Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park has beach access, snow play (maybe), hiking, and mountain biking. Around the other way, at the southwest corner of the lake, Taylor Creek Visitor Center is a great place to learn about Lake Tahoe’s natural features and the historic activities of humans.
If you get ambitious, consider the 72 mile drive around Lake Tahoe. My article Tour the Lake Tahoe Basin provides directions for an auto circumnavigation. And if all else fails, just keep going and come on over to Reno. We’ve got lots to do here. I hope you and your family enjoy visiting the Reno/Tahoe region.

Beautiful, but I’m glad you said it was late winter, I’d hate to think it looked that way in late May!
The contrast of the blue and white is great. Hope all the snow is melted by now.
I love the combination of water and mountains. The mountains provide grandeur, and the water offers replenishment of spirit.
What a gorgeous picture, Stan! You are quite the photographer!
Beautiful shot! Happy WW to you.
It is beautiful…but I am REALLY glad to see the last of the snow around here right now…LOL!
I wonder if I can survive living in a country that snows… But the picture really looks good. Very inviting
Happy WW!
