Conventions Bail Out of Reno

The Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) recently announced that two big conventions, both of which have held past meetings in Reno, are riding off to other cities for future sessions. On the plus side, a big event was recently sold by the RSCVA sales staff that will help fill the gaps in 2009 bookings. We can also look forward to all of Reno's ongoing big events this year, none of which seem to be in jeopardy.

The Volleyball Festival, which brought thousands of visitors and millions of dollars to the region in 2008, will be spiking the ball in Phoenix this year. The Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue Expo is going to fire up the grill in Salt Lake City instead of Reno in 2011, and possibly 2013 and 2015 as well. RSCVA officials said they were unable to persuade either group to change their minds.

Meanwhile, the Northern California Volleyball Association will be bringing their "Reno High Rollers" tournament to town in June. It isn't as big as the other volleyball event, but we can give our neighbors a big welcome and help them have a great time in Reno.
