Reno's Clean and Green program, previously held twice a year in April and October, has been put on hold - another victim of the economic times. There will be no central locations where we can dump our debris this spring, and we won't be getting those free vouchers for disposing of junk at the Lockwood Landfill. Reno residents will, however, be accorded free dumping at Lockwood courtesy of Waste Management, from April 20 through April 29 (except Sunday, April 26). Hours are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring proof of residence. For more information, contact Waste Management at (775) 329-8822.

The Great Truckee Meadows Clean Up on May 9 is still a go. Volunteers will work at various sites around the area from 8:30 a.m. to noon. There will be a picnic for all volunteers following the event. The annual Clean Up is organized by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful. Call (775) 851-5185 to learn more.

Keeping our neighborhoods and city free of trash is a beautiful thing, but there are plenty of other things we can do to green up the place and save ourselves a few bucks at the same time. Going Green in Reno is my article about programs and resources for green living in the Reno / Tahoe region. Kermit was wrong - it's not that hard being green.
