It's Spring in Reno

Today is the vernal equinox, better known as the first day of spring. In celestial terms, this is when the sun is directly over Earth's equator and moving north. Our hours of daylight increase as summer approaches, while the opposite occurs south of the equator to bring on winter. Here in the high desert, the days start getting a little warmer and the nights a little less frigid. When early bloomers like daffodils raise their cheery faces, you know the worst is over. Usually, but not always. I've seen is snow on the first day of spring in Reno, which wouldn't be a bad thing this year considering our need for a few more inches of mountain snowpack. I'm willing to put up with another storm or two, as long as I get a long sunny summer out of the deal.
