If you were around for last year's Run Amuck at the Reno River Festival, you know this event is serious fun for both participants and spectators. Run Amuck is a two-person relay race along the Truckee River, starting at the Whitewater Park in downtown Reno, but saying that doesn't really begin to describe what goes on. To get the idea, think costumed runners negotiating a variety of obstacles, including the signature 60 foot mud pit in Idlewild Park. Organizers are expecting at least 300 teams of muckers - co-workers, parents and children, and a variety of other couples.

Run Amuck is on Saturday, May 9. There will be a costume contest at 1 p.m., with the race starting at 2 p.m. The fee is $50 per team and you can register online through May 7. Participants are invited to the official Reno River Festival Kick-Off Party at West Street Market the night before to pick up race day packets and goodie bags. For more information, call (775) 784-9400 x119.
