Since July 1, 2008, Reno's Community Development Department has shrunk from 106 to 52 employees. The reductions, through mechanisms such as a hiring freeze and early buyouts, have been made because of shrinking revenues from permitting, building, and planning fees. These fees are the source of salaries for the department. To continue operations with a smaller workforce, Community Development front counter hours have been reduced to weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment by calling (775) 334-2035.

Community Development Department hours are now 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. An automated phone system will now greet you when you call. Offices are at 450 Sinclair Street, 1st Floor, Reno, NV 89501. The phone number is (775) 334-2063.

Online services of the Virtual Permit Place remain intact. Users can search here for building permits, planning cases, public works cases, engineering permits, and can schedule inspections online.
