Physician's Spouses Rummage Sale

As these things go, the 58th Annual Physician's Spouses Rummage Sale is a real biggie. We're talking a whole day (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to sort through 20,000 square feet of, well, rummage. Items are collected and stored all year, then brought to the sale location and set up during the week before the event. There is a lot of stuff, including furniture, clothing, antiques, sporting goods, books, and more.

The sale will be this Saturday at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center Exhibition Hall, 1350 N. Wells Avenue in Reno. Parking is free and admission is $3. Those 17 and under are free. This event drew over 4,000 paid admissions last year. Since the legal capacity of the hall is 500, you might have to wait until some folks leave before gaining entry. If you just don't want to wait, you can join those who like to line up the night before to assure early entry and a shot at the prime goods. For more information, and to learn about donating items and volunteering to help, call (775) 829-1303.

The Alliance with the Washoe County Medical Society (AWCMS) sponsors this yearly sale. Ninety five percent of proceeds go to local nursing student scholarships and other nonprofit organizations. In past years, the amount raised has been between $50,000 and $60,000. Items not sold will be donated to the Friends of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Great Basin Sierra Division.
