In March, National Women's History Month is celebrated across the United States. There are a number of events scheduled here in Reno to mark the occasion, including a series of articles in our local newspaper and activities at Truckee Meadows Community College. Nevada even has national representation in the person of Sarah Winnemucca, a Native American who made lasting contributions to our state. A beautiful statue of her is one of only 24 on display in the new Capitol Visitor's Center in Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile, a series of winter storms is forecast to bring lots of new snow to the Sierra around Lake Tahoe, and mostly rain to the Reno area. I returned to Reno from a weekend trip Sunday afternoon and had a pretty tough drive as high winds were blowing the weather in over the mountains. Last night, the wind was really whipping, but it's settled down some today and we're getting a good dose of much needed rain. If you must drive up in the high country this week, be sure to check weather and road conditions before heading out.
