Last week, the Reno City Council set about cutting another $3.3 million from its current budget. Cuts are spread across city departments, including the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. A recent city press release described changes related to the city's swimming pools and their hours of operation. The release noted that there could be more changes if the city's financial situation gets worse.

The Northwest Pool will close one hour earlier on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Aquatics programs are not affected. There will be no public swim on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.

The Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center Pool will close one hour earlier on Mondays and Wednesdays. Programs are not eliminated, but schedules are changed. The pool will close an hour and a half earlier on Saturdays, with program schedules modified.

Idlewild Pool is outdoors and currently closed for the season. Its schedule will be unchanged when it opens for 2009.

Traner Pool is also an outdoor facility currently closed. Hours will remain the same for 2009, but the season will be shortened to seven weeks. It will open on June 5 instead of Memorial Day weekend.
