Now that all the holiday eating and drinking is over, it's time to pay the piper by dealing with your newly expanded party body. Besides just cutting back to a normal food ration, I suggest getting down to the gym to burn off some of those excess calories you've ingested and to tone up after weeks of the inactive holiday lifestyle. Lest you think I'm coming off with a holier than thou attitude, note that I'm also talking about myself. Fact is, I just started an exercise program at the nearby health club and am in the initial suffering stage. I'm not so young anymore and getting going is not as easy as it used to be, but I'm going to stick it out. I don't plan to stop doing things that give me pleasure, like hiking in the mountains and desert, so working out now is a good investment in my future recreational fitness. I think it's also a hedge against relying on the health care system - if you don't need them, they can't turn you away or send you to the poor house as a reward for getting sick.
