It started snowing late Sunday night, and as I write the white stuff continues coming down on this Monday. Things were pretty slippery for the morning commute, but I didn't see anyone being stupid when I took my wife to her office in downtown Reno. Meanwhile, it's cold and I don't think this is going to melt off for a few days. Snow totals compiled by the National Weather Service this morning include 2 inches at the Reno Airport (there's more at my house, which is nearby), 6 inches in the Spanish Springs area of Sparks, 18 inches at Mt. Rose ski area, 19 inches at Alpine Meadows near Truckee, and 7 inches at Incline Village by Lake Tahoe.

This storm is bringing enough snow to let area ski resorts open with all runs covered, and to give non-skiers plenty of slopes to slide on at our snow play areas. Before venturing forth, put those chains in the car and update yourself with the latest weather forecast and highway conditions information.
