If the forecast turns out to be accurate, we're in for a good shot at some snow over the next few days. According to the National Weather Service in Reno, the party begins Friday evening with some serious wind. They are predicting 25 - 45 mph breezes, with the possibility of 50+ mph gusts. Tie things down or they're liable to end up in Winnemucca. It's also going to get cold, with highs hovering in the low 30s into next week.
It should be about the same up in the Sierra and around Lake Tahoe, except for more snow and colder temperatures. It won't get above freezing in Truckee or the Lake Tahoe Basin for days. Skiers and other fans of snowy mountains are finally going to get some real winter. Before venturing forth, put those chains in the car and update yourself with the latest weather forecast and highway conditions information.
