The bad news is that we're a trashy bunch here in Reno. The good news is that we continue to make cleaning up after ourselves a regular habit, and the numbers prove it. The City of Reno has released the results of October's
Clean and Green program, demonstrating that our collective efforts to keep the Truckee Meadows a pleasant place to live are paying off. Here's what we did:
- Waste Management removed 5,300+ cubic yards of trash from Reno neighborhoods
- Clean Harbors Environmental took in over 11,445 pounds of hazardous waste
- Solid Waste Reduction recycled 36,420 pounds of scrap metal
- Tires Plus received 287 old tires
- Computer Corps. accepted 17,960 pounds of electronic waste for recycling
- Kiwanis Bike collected 62 bicycles to be refurbished and returned to the community
Reno's Clean and Green program is held twice a year in April and October, coinciding with spring cleaning after winter and spiffing up as fall and the holiday season are approaching. Read
