Just a couple of weeks ago, I was writing about the early snow falling in the Sierra and crisp temperatures down here in the Truckee Meadows. Since then, the switch has been flipped and we're having a streak of unseasonably warm weather. I mean, it's been unbelievably nice, with clear blue skies, calm winds, and daytime temperatures in the 70s. The average for November is 55. According to the National Weather Service, a cooling trend will lower temperatures back into the 50s over the next several days, but there is no snow in the immediate forecast.

Meanwhile, city workers are preparing downtown Reno for the holiday season. Rink on the River is assembled, waiting for colder weather for the ice making to begin. Reno's Holiday Tree is standing at the corner of 1st and Virginia Streets, being decorated for the official lighting on November 26. Nearby ski resorts that have announced opening dates for the Thanksgiving holiday may have to modify their plans if temperatures and snowfall don't cooperate. At least travel over the mountains is easy for now, so get out and enjoy fall's last nice days while you can.
