National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board Meeting

The Bureau of Land Management's National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board will be meeting in Reno on November 17, in the Reno Ballroom at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino, 50 E. Fourth Street in downtown Reno. Meeting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The full meeting agenda is published in the October 16, 2008, Federal Register on page 61436. This document also includes information about BLM public comment procedures. Though not specifically stated in the agenda, the issue of euthanizing excess horses, as discussed in my article about Nevada's Wild Horses, is sure to be a hot topic.

The meeting is open to the public and there will be time alloted for speakers to address the Advisory Board. People wanting to make a statement should register by noon at the meeting room in the Silver Legacy. According to a press release from the BLM, the public will be heard starting about 3 p.m. and speakers will be limited to three minutes. If a large number of people wish to address the Advisory Board, the time per speaker may be limited further. BLM defined rules for speakers are as follows: "Speakers must submit a written copy of their statement to the BLM at the meeting; those who would like to comment but are unable to attend may submit a written statement no later than November 12, 2008, to: Bureau of Land Management, National Wild Horse and Burro Program, WO-260, Attention: Ramona DeLorme, 1340 Financial Boulevard, Reno, Nevada, 89502-7147. Comments may also be e-mailed to: Ramona_DeLorme@blm.gov. Those submitting comments electronically should include the identifier 'WH&B' in the subject of their message and their name and address in the body of the message."
