Metered parking in Reno's downtown district has been lowered to $1 per hour. According to a City of Reno press release, adjusting the meters was completed in October. "We take concerns from residents and business owners seriously. We listened to the issues that were raised and made the decision to resolve the problem immediately," said Reno Mayor Bob Cashell.

Don't start thinking the city is going soft on collecting fees. At the City Council meeting on November 10, an ordinance was passed doubling overtime parking fines (from $10 to $20) and increasing penalties for not paying tickets on time. If the fine isn't paid in 15 days, the amount goes to $40. After 30 days, the fine increases to $60. These increases go into effect December 1. By the way, the parking enforcement people running around downtown in their little scooters are pretty efficient. I got popped when I stopped for about five minutes to take a picture. The $10 fine (now $20) would have bought me 40 hours, so I've started keeping a fist full of quarters in my car. If you do get a ticket, this handy web page will show you the many ways you can pay the parking fine.
