When I attended the Reno Veterans Day Parade, there was an atmosphere around the event I hadn't experienced in a long time. People were happy and hopeful, proud to be Americans and full of patriotic spirit. Though the sky was overcast, the streets were bright with this resurgent positive attitude, a reawakening of our collective belief that we can and will work together to make things better for everyone. We've had enough of being told we should live in fear and aren't going to take it anymore.

A recent USA Today/Gallup poll reveals an America with positive opinions about President-elect Barack Obama and high hopes for the Obama presidency. He tallied a 68% favorable opinion rating in the poll, along with a 65% affirmative answer about whether or not the country will be better off in four years. These numbers are significantly higher than either George W. Bush or Bill Clinton garnered when they first took office.

It's interesting that these numbers are higher than pre-election polls, leading me to believe lots of people have overcome the campaign divisiveness and want to move ahead in a common effort to solve problems as a united country. I'm on board and ready to help bring some light into the national darkness under which we have been suffering for the past few years. Yes, we can.
