This is it. Today is the day we become the deciders. The results of this election will affect each of us personally and our collective well-being as a nation for years to come. I am hopeful that we, the responsible voting citizens of the United States, will make the choices needed to begin restoring our damaged democracy, crippled economy, and soiled standing in the world.

Please go vote if you haven't already done so, either through early voting or by filing an absent ballot. All Washoe County polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you aren't sure where to go, check the 2008 elections polling place list. Depending on your persuasion, you can get additional voting information from the Washoe County Democratic Party and the Washoe County Republican Party. Now, will the candidates please gracefully accept the results and give us voters a respite from the rhetoric.

Free Admission Celebrating Election Day at the Nevada Museum of Art - Admission to the Nevada Museum of Art will be free on Election Day. Come enjoy the featured exhibit, Long May She Wave: A Graphic History of the American Flag. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is located at 160 W. Liberty Street in Reno. For more information, call (775) 329-1541.

The entire voting system needs to be completely revamped and brought up to date!

Amen! We need Election Day to be a holiday, enough voting machines at every polling place, verifiable software running the machines, a paper trail with each voter getting a paper copy of their ballot, and early voting nationwide. That should be good for starters.

I agree, too! But add that, as crucial as the presidential elections are, the non-pres elections are just as important for state and local areas and do impact the people in those areas.

And a big thanks to all the rest of you who got out there and voted! :-D Hurray for democracy and freedom at work!

(Did you guys see the push for everyone to wear purple today as a sign of unity in our country, regardless of who you voted for? Great idea!!)
