For 2008, Nevada Day actually falls on the right day, October 31, the date in 1864 when Nevada was admitted to the Union as our 36th state. It's an official holiday for the government, meaning state and local offices will be closed, including the DMV, courts, and the libraries. However, early voting will still be available at some locations on the 31st.

The Nevada Day Celebration is appropriately centered in Carson City, Nevada's first and only capital city. The theme for 2008 is Hollywood in Nevada - Movies and Television. Various Nevada Day events will be spread over three days, from Thursday, October 30, through Saturday, November 1. The biggest event is Saturday's Nevada Day Parade, starting at 10 a.m. and running down Carson Street from William Street on the north to Stewart Street on the south. The parade is well attended, so I'd get there early to stake out a good viewing spot.
