The Reno Fire Department just opened two new fire stations. They are replacements for the downtown station that was torn down to accommodate the new Triple-A baseball stadium currently going at the corner of 2nd St. and Evans Ave.

The new station at 495 E. 4th St. and Valley Rd. is a couple of blocks north of the old station and continues to provide protection to the downtown area. The one by the Grand Sierra Resort, 2501 Mill St., adds additional protection and cuts response times to the Wells Ave. and Kietzke Ln. areas, according to Reno Fire Chief Paul Wagner. Both stations are considered temporary, expected to be used anywhere from 5 to 20 years. The baseball stadium developers are loaning $10 million to the city for these temporary stations and the eventual construction of permanent ones.
