If you got to Reno after the ReTRAC project became operational, you missed the fun experience of having a major rail line dividing the city center and stopping car traffic several times a day. That came to an end in December of 2005 when the ReTRAC project (known locally as the train trench) became operational. Trains began moving through Reno below street level and life on the surface ceased to be dictated by Union Pacific freights and Amtrak passenger trains. The train trench is the biggest public works project in Reno's history. The transformation of downtown Reno's atmosphere has been nothing short of amazing.

The public is invited to attend a ReTRAC Plaque Dedication Ceremony on Monday, October 20, at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will be outside the Amtrak station at Center Street and the railroad tracks. Reno's Mayor Bob Cashell and members of the Reno City Council will unveil a plaque and dedicate the ReTRAC project to the citizens of Reno.
