More Democrats Than Republicans in Washoe County

A funny thing has happened down at the Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office. As of Monday, there were 958 more Democrats than Republicans registered to vote in Washoe County. People were lined up to register on Monday, and Washoe County Registrar Dan Burk expected another big crowd on Tuesday, the last day to register for the 2008 General Election. Burk said the final results will change due to all the last minute registrants and the tally won't be known until his staff finishes processing the applications. The last time Democrats had a majority of registered voters was 30 years ago, in 1978.

This shift in party affiliation has been going the Democrats' way over the last two election cycles. I think it's going to make Nevada a more sought after prize than before because the state has truly become a battleground - neither party can take winning our 5 electoral votes for granted. It looks like it's going to boil down to who has the best organization for getting their loyalists to the polls.
