The new Family Shelter and Resource Center Building, the final phase of the
Community Assistance Center, opens this Friday. Before opening for business, the media will be able to tour the facility, accompanied by representatives from Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County. This is the second of two buildings in the four building complex owned by the City of Reno. The other, opened earlier this year, contains the Reno Community Triage Center, the Reno Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team, and the Men’s and Women’s Drop In Centers. The Community Assistance Center is just east of downtown Reno on Record Street, a block south of the intersection with 4th Street.
The Family Shelter has accomodates up to 22 families. The Resource Center contains the Good Shepherd Clothes Closet, the Community Health Center Outreach Clinic (HAWC), and Restart. Other Community Assistance Center services for the homeless include St. Vincent’s Dining Room, the Reno Sparks Gospel Mission, and the Men’s Drop-in Center.
