The 11th Annual Truckee River Clean-Up Day is this Saturday, September 27th, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will work at one of 12 parks along the Truckee River corridor, from Crystal Peak Park out in Verdi to Cottonwood Park in Sparks. Wherever you live in the Truckee Meadows, there is a location near you. In 2007, over 500 volunteers hauled off 17 tons of various trash and junk from in and near the Truckee River.

Besides picking up trash, volunteers will be helping with other tasks like painting, building fences, and stenciling storm drains to discourage dumping stuff that should not get into the river. To join the effort, fill out the online volunteer form and select your site. You can also sign up by calling (775) 851-5185. Following the clean-up, volunteers are invited to gather at Cottonwood Park in Sparks for free drinks and lunch.

Truckee River Clean-Up Day is organized by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and sponsored by numerous local businesses and government entities.
