Reno's 2008 Green Summit is this Saturday, September 20, at the Joe Crowley Student Union on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The Green Summit opens at noon and the program begins at 1 p.m., with welcomes and greetings from UNR President Milton Glick and Reno Mayor Bob Cashell. Reno City Councilman Dave Aiazzi will then provide a report to the community, followed by the keynote address by Rocky Anderson, founder of High Road for Human Rights and former Mayor of Salt Lake City. Participants can spend the remainder of the afternoon in one of four breakout sessions; transportation, green building and guidelines, single stream recycling and single use bags, and youth programs and participation. Over 30 vendors will be on hand with various green products and services.

As stated on Reno's Green Summit website, "The Green Summit is an opportunity for residents to participate and help develop plans to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, recycle, create sustainable building practices, use environmentally friendly products and contribute in other ways to protect our environment." Two Action Plans now exist, outlining steps the city council is taking to implement its green priority and Keep it Green! programs. This year's Green Summit will build on the plan created in 2007 with an updated version for 2008-2009.
