Sierra Pacific Power is our local purveyor of gas and electricity. Unless you are off the grid or otherwise into alternative energy, you are paying this company for your lights, heating, and cooling. They do, however, offer some free and low-cost services that will actually save you money, but you have to request them. See a list of these programs at Home Energy Rebates.

Right now, Sierra Pacific is offering a free water heater blanket, with installation, to Reno area gas customers on request. The toll-free number to set this up is (866) 920-7822. I just tried it and found out what you need to make it happen. You will need to mail a copy of your most recent Sierra Pacific bill, the brand name of your water heater, and your phone number to Comfort Savings, 2925 E. Patrick Lane #D, Las Vegas, NV 89120. However, I recommend you call first like I did, just to make sure your situation qualifies.

More information about this program is available from the online Sierra Pacific August 2008 bill insert. I know it's over 80 right now and no one is thinking about snow and freezing temperatures, but they are coming. Getting even a tiny break on my power bill, for free, is a good thing.
