While we're looking at new projects, let's check in on Reno's new baseball stadium, currently under construction downtown at the corner of Evans Avenue and E. 2nd Street. According to a City of Reno press release, the Triple-A stadium is on schedule for the opening game on April 2, 2009. "To date, the home and visiting dugouts have been built, mass excavation of the field, clubhouse basement and bowl seating areas is complete and concrete foundations have been poured behind home plate and in the clubhouse. All underground utilities at field level are now in place and workers began pouring vertical walls in early August."

The stadium is a project of SK Baseball. The baseball team is moving to Reno from Tucson, AZ, and remains affiliated with the major league Arizona Diamondbacks. The Tuscon team is named the Sidewinders, but our team has yet to be assigned a handle. If you want to have a say, go to the Reno Ballpark Update website and cast your vote. This second round of balloting has been whittled down to ten choices.

In conjunction with the stadium, an entertainment and shopping zone is planned for the area around the ball park. Fans wanting to follow stadium progress or who are interested in learning about season tickets can visit the Reno Baseball website.
