Sparks Lays Off More City Employees
Tuesday August 26, 2008
According to a recent press release from the City of Sparks, 13 employees in the Community Development Department will be laid off in yet another cost cutting measure. Some of the employees are entitled to other positions in the city government. If qualified employees affected by the layoffs decide to take those positions, workers currently doing those jobs will be let go.
This is the second round of layoffs in the Sparks Community Development Department. Lack of revenue from building permits, inspections, planning entitlements, and other development services is the main culprit. These are the sources from which the Department is largely funded, and they've dried to a trickle during the current economic slowdown. The City of Reno has been experiencing similar funding difficulties.
