The concrete started pouring Monday at West Street Market, a project of Reno's Redevelopment Agency. This is the next phase of construction leading to completion and full opening in October. West Street Market is going to be a combination of various outdoor and indoor businesses, ranging from wine and organic foods to baked goods and art. Several old buildings, on the east side of West Street and half a block from the Truckee River, are being refurbished to house these new downtown Reno enterprises. The West Street median in front of the market is an edible landscape demonstration garden by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE).

According to a City of Reno press release, West Street Market is on schedule and completely leased. Tenants will be the West Street Wine Bar, Brickhouse Bakery, Burger Me, Earthly Delights, Nikos Greek Kitchen, Nutty Boy, Se7en Teahouse and Bar, La Marenda, Nevada EcoNet, Great Basin Basket, Downtown Market Place, Jada's Jewels, Silver Trends, and Reno eNVy.

Meanwhile, West Street Market is open Wednesday and Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with each day having a different theme. Nevada EcoNet hosts the Eco Market on Wednesdays, devoted to food production and sustainable living. Fridays are an Artisan Market, hosted by the Holland Project. The Farmer's and Chef's Market, a more traditional market with lots of food grown right here in Nevada, is on Saturday mornings.

The new West Street Market is already shaping up to be a great addition to the visitor friendly atmosphere emerging in downtown Reno. Learn about parking and other details from Reno's West Street Market website.
