The 9th Annual Great Truckee River Duck Race is coming up on Sunday, August 24. This event, a benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada, is held at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. An estimated 15,000 little rubber duckies will race down the Truckee River while their adopters cheer them on to the finish. They will be cheering for a reason; 12 prizes are up for grabs, with number one being a Home Improvement Package valued at $2,548.

Race festivities get under way at 10 a.m., with the race scheduled for 2 p.m. Admission is free to this family friendly event. Race mascots Quacky and Suzie Q will be there to greet and entertain the children.

You can adopt ducks for $5 each, which goes to support the Make-A-Wish goal of raising enough money to grant 20 wishes. There are a number of forms available on the Make-A-Wish Duck Race website for those interested in the schedule of events, Corporate Duck Race, being a vendor, or performing at the event.

This is such a fun fundraiser! We did something similar in our small town with great success. I have to admit I had forgotten about it, and we’ve been thinking about fundraising! Thanks for the reminder.

Our river is currently too swollen from the high rains this season, but we would need time to plan anyway. Maybe next summer the levels will be perfect for a rubber ducky race.
