A proposed ban on beer sales at UNR Wolf Pack football games in Mackay Stadium,
reported in a previous post, isn't going to happen this upcoming season. According to a story in the Reno Gazette-Journal (RGJ), a university survey with 1,155 responses resulted in 78 percent in favor of keeping the suds flowing. The proposal originated because the actions of a few obnoxious fans (i.e., drunk) had been ruining the enjoyment of games by others. UNR President Milt Glick left his options open, quoted in the RGJ as saying, "We're going to look at it next year. If there are no problems, there will be no reason to change things. But if there are still problems, we will reconsider banning alcohol."
To clean up the scene, more security will be present at games and there will be zero tolerance for football hooliganism. You get rowdy, you get tossed, or arrested. More scrutiny will be given to fans as they enter the stadium. If they are drunk or trying to smuggle hooch, they won't get in. Fans will be provided with a security number so they can call on cell phones to report unruly activity. A UNR press release titled Nevada to Step Up Efforts to Promote Fan- and Family-Friendly Environment at Mackay Stadium goes over what to expect at Wolf Pack football games.
