It's still May, but it has felt like July lately. Temperatures have climbed up into the 90s the last few days, with 94 forecast for Monday. This is a good 20 degrees higher than the seasonal average and threatening the record of 96 set in 1986. According to Mike Alger, the weather guy at KTVN channel 2, the responsible party is a strong high pressure system camped out over Northern Nevada. Relief is in sight, though, as the weather forecast calls for cooling and even a chance of rain showers toward the end of the week. Should thunderstorms develop, the spectre of wildfire will become a concern.

When I look at the extended forecast, I see clear skies and warm days for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. If this pans out, we are in for a pleasant time during this year's first big three day weekend.
