Armed Forces Day and More

On Armed Forces Day weekend, Carson City Honors Our Troops with a number of events dedicated to supporting wounded soldiers and their families. The city of Carson City, Operation First Response, and others are sponsoring a parade and other activities at various venues around Carson City. Battle Born Derby Demons Reno Nevada The Battle Born Derby Demons, Reno's first and only roller derby team, will host the Santa Cruz Rollergirls in a bout Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. The gate opens at 6 p.m. at the plaza between Reno City Hall and the Truckee River, corner First and Virginia Streets. This is a family-friendly event; bring lawn chairs and enjoy an exciting evening in downtown Reno.

The 4th Annual McCarran Ranch Open House on Sunday gives you an opportunity to see how The Nature Conservancy and other agencies are working to restore the Truckee River to a more natural state, thus enhancing wildlife habitat and complementing flood prevention efforts upstream in the Reno and Sparks metro area. This free event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring the kids (but no dogs) and enjoy a day at the river with walking tours, a nature photography workshop, fly casting classes, and more. McCarran Ranch is 15 miles east of Reno on I80 at Patrick exit 28.
