Golden Eagle Regional Park & Sports Complex Grand Opening
Saturday April 12, 2008
On Monday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m., ceremonies will take place in Sparks to mark the opening phase of our region's newest park and sports complex. Sparks Mayor Geno Martini will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to get this year's baseball and softball season underway. Initially, the park will only be open for scheduled games and practices, with full completion expected this summer.
At $30 million, Golden Eagle Regional Park is the biggest public works project in Sparks' history. It's also the largest artificial turf project in industry history, according to a City of Sparks press release. Since the surface requires no watering and mowing like the real thing, it is projected to save 129 acre feet a year of precious water. Play ball!
